Mathematics & Law

Formula & Calculation Logic

Mathematical Formula
Tax Payable = (Tax on Total Income after Slab Brackets - Section 87A Rebate) + 4% Health & Education Cess

Under the New Tax Regime (Section 115BAC), income is taxed at progressive 5% to 30% slabs starting above ₹3,00,000. Salaried individuals receive a flat ₹75,000 Standard Deduction. Under Section 87A, resident individuals with taxable income up to ₹7,00,000 receive a full tax rebate up to ₹25,000, making annual earnings up to ₹7,75,000 completely tax-free. Under the Old Regime, deductions under 80C (₹1.5L), 80D (₹25k-₹1L), 24(b) Home Loan (₹2L), and ₹50,000 Standard Deduction are subtracted from gross income before applying traditional 5%, 20%, and 30% slab rates.

Expert Advisory Recommendation:

Online estimations provide mathematical clarity, but real-world filing involves matching multiple source ledgers (AIS/TIS, Form 26AS, GSTR-2B, broker P&L). Consult with an EasyFile Tax Specialist before submitting statutory tax returns to avoid mismatch intimations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Expert answers on statutory compliance, exemptions, and calculation rules.

For salaried individuals, a standard deduction of ₹75,000 reduces gross income of ₹7,75,000 to ₹7,00,000 net taxable income. Under Section 87A, taxable income up to ₹7,00,000 qualifies for a 100% tax rebate (up to ₹25,000), reducing total tax liability to ₹0.

Salaried individuals without business income can freely choose and switch between the New and Old regimes every financial year while filing their ITR under Section 139(1). Individuals with business or professional income (PGBP) can switch only once in a lifetime.

If your total eligible deductions under 80C, 80D, HRA, and Home Loan interest exceed ₹3,75,000, the Old Tax Regime is generally more beneficial. If total deductions are less than ₹3,75,000, the New Tax Regime offers lower tax liability.
